Are vegetables are healthy as they were before?
Many experts still believe that people with a healthy diet do not lack of nutrients. If only this was the case!
Organically grown vegetables from your own garden probably do still contain the same number of nutrients as vegetables did 100 years ago, but certainly not the mass produced fruit and vegetables. The reasons for this are the use of fertilisers, the green house effect, harvesting before ripening, transporting over long distances and long storage times in supermarkets. It is scientifically proven that 50-70% of people in Europe have a nutrient deficiency which will result in serious health problems.
What are nutrients?
These include vitamins, minerals, trace elements, amino acids, fatty acids and many phytochemicals. For example, main stream medicine recognises the treatment of osteoperosis with vitamin D and calcium or the prevention of goiter with iodine. There are hundreds of more ways of preventing or treating diseases with nutrients. Why not use these incredible treatments available to us which also have the added benefit of no side effects?
Nutroceutical medicine (also known as orthomolecular medicine) is always scientifically based. The discoverer was the two-times Nobel Prize winner, Prof. Dr. Linus Pauling. In the last 20 years, countless scientific studies have proven the remarkable efficacy of nutrients (micronutrients) in combating diseases.
Dosage
The difference from herbal medicine (Phytotherapy) is the targeted transfer of individual plant materials and dosage. Nutrients must usually be taken in high dosage to be effective and therefore the curative effects are usually more pronounced than in phytotherapy. The advantage of the nutroceutical is its preventative properties. Diseases and conditions such as heart attacks, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, depression and cancer could be reduced by half if all people had a sufficient intake of nutrients. Prevention is infinitely better than cure, but even once diseases have taken hold, there are incredible treatments available through nutroceuticals.
It is never too late to increase your nutrient intake. Improvements can still be achieved in the retirement home.
