Roseroot
Dr. med. Heinz Lüscher
Roseroot is an exciting plant when it comes to increasing the body’s resistance to various stress factors. As one of the most important adaptogens, roseroot counteracts stress and is also mood-enhancing and performance-enhancing.
What is roseroot
Rhodiola rosea (Rhodiola rosea) is a species of plant from the Rhodiola family. It is a hardy plant that thrives in cold and barren arctic regions and in mountainous regions in Eurasia and North America.

Adaptogens strengthen the body in stressful situations
Rose root has been used for centuries in traditional medicine in Eastern and Northern Europe and parts of Asia. It is one of the most important adaptogenic plants. Adaptogens are plant substances that strengthen the body’s resistance to stress or help it to cope better with physical or psychological stress. The active ingredients in roseroot include rosavin, salidroside and tyrosol. They are found in the rhizome and in the roots. This part is also used for medicinal purposes and gives the plant its name, as the roots smell of roses.

Effects of roseroot
Roseroot gives the body resistance to a wide variety of stressors. Whether it is mental or physical overload and strain, illness, heavy metal exposure or other factors, the plant ensures that bodily functions that are out of balance in stressful situations are normalized. Rose root has the effect of making you feel less stressed, allowing you to deal with stress more calmly and preventing stress from making you ill; you become more resilient and stress-resistant.
The effects at a glance
- Increase in serotonin and dopamine levels (mood-enhancing)
- Increase energy production in the cells
- Antioxidant effect
- Improved oxygen supply
- Promotion of DNA repair
Indications of roseroot
- Stress situations of all kinds
- Depression
- Burnout
- States of anxiety
- Tiredness, states of exhaustion
- Performance enhancement (e.g. also in sport)
- Concentration problems
- Problems with memory
- Sleep problems
- Weakened immune system
Rhodiola rosea can therefore do a lot of good on its own or in combination with other valuable plant substances.
I do not recommend roseroot on its own, but rather in combination with other effective plant substances. For example, in preparations to strengthen the body and psyche (e.g. with extracts from dandelion, grape seeds, reishi, brown algae and quercetin) or in preparations to support thyroid function (with phenylalanine, tyrosine, selenium, vitamin B12).
